Partial Dentures Dentists Ottawa Downtown

A removable partial denture is a set of prosthetic teeth that is held in place by several metal clasps. These clasps are attached to natural teeth for support and stability. As the name suggests, the denture can be removed and reinserted by the patient himself or herself. This particular tooth replacement solution has several important disadvantages. Number one is diminished functionality; in many cases a removable partial denture simply does not allow completely “normal” biting and chewing. The necessary support and stability are just not there. Second, an area without natural root structure is likely to eventually experience gradual bone resorption (loss). Finally, the metal clasps are not always invisible and they tend to tarnish that otherwise perfect smile.
