Dental Bridges
Dental Bridge Treatments & Ottawa Dentists
A traditional and still very popular treatment option for people with multiple teeth missing is a dental bridge. A dental bridge is a set of prosthetic (ceramic) teeth that is permanently attached on both ends to the adjacent natural teeth. Generally speaking, it is preferred over its removable counterpart (removable partial denture), but it too has certain disadvantages. First, adjacent healthy teeth have to be "prepared" (trimmed down) to support and retain the bridge. Second, a less than perfect "fit" may cause the food and bacteria to accumulate underneath the bridge, potentially causing decay and gum disease. Finally, due to the absence of any root structure, the area may experience gradual bone recession (resorbtion).
